Find your cup of tea.

Updated: Oct 29, 2023

Finding the right therapist makes all the difference in your journey to bloom. It's important to find someone who suits your needs, your preference, and your personality. Often times, we encounter therapists that don't check those boxes. If the therapist isn't for you, you may not get what you want out of therapy plain and simple. Finding the right therapist may not even happen on the first try, but don't write therapy off just yet! No two therapists are alike and sometimes it takes some time to find that right cup of tea.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A THERAPIST

Imagine you have found the perfect blend of tea. You close your eye while sipping that tea, the warmth of the liquid awakens your tastebuds and you feel comfort. That feeling you get sipping that perfect cup of tea, should be similar to the feeling you get when finding the right therapist. A strong therapeutic relationship is built on trust, empathy, and understanding. A therapist who aligns with your values and respects your experiences creates a safe space where you can feel comfortable opening up without judgment.

Are they meeting your needs and goals for therapy? A therapist that best suits you will understand your unique challenges and customize the therapeutic approach to address your specific needs. Their approach should foster hope and inspire motivation to work towards goals and navigate challenges in an effective way.

Do you feel you can be honest with them? Effective communication is key to effective therapy. Your therapist should be someone you feel comfortable talking to, someone who listens actively and communicates honestly and clearly. Therapy sessions should flow in a manner that suits your pace and style.

Do you feel seen, heard, and respected? Your therapist should provide you with emotional safety. Feeling secure and supported allows you to delve into experiences and emotions that are personal to you. It takes great courage to take a step to be vulnerable. If your therapist isn't the right fit, you may feel unsafe which may in turn hinder the process.

Therapy is a journey that requires time and commitment. The therapist that fits your needs will ensure a long-term commitment that is sustainable and beneficial. Just like exploring various tea blends to find your favorite cup of tea, you may find yourself exploring different therapists until you find the one that truly understands you and supports you. Your mental health journey is as unique as you are, and having the right therapist by your side can make it a transformative and empowering experience.

I may not be your cup of tea, and that is okay. My role is to support you and your needs and if I'm not the one to meet those needs, I would be happy to assist in helping you find the therapist that can. At Bloom Counseling Services, PLLC, we offer a free 15 minute consultation for you to explore if we are the right fit for each other.
